Throughout her career, structures have played an integral role in Hitomi’s development as a floral designer, educator, and artist. They have provided a way to explore mechanics, redefine form, work with unexpected materials, and create new possibilities for how flowers and botanical materials can be presented.
Over six months, students will explore structure-building through a combination of detailed technical instruction, creative projects, conversations, live learning, group discussion, and personal mentorship with Hitomi.
Yes, you’ll learn how Hitomi creates some of her signature structures, but this MasterClass also goes much further than simply recreating finished designs. Together, you’ll explore how an idea begins. How materials are chosen. How a concept becomes a workable structure. How challenges encountered during the building process can lead to unexpected creative solutions. And ultimately, how the techniques and principles behind Hitomi’s work can become tools for developing ideas that are entirely your own.

Structure-building begins long before the first material is assembled. Learn how Hitomi approaches a project from the very beginning. We will explore topics such as inspiration, purpose, material selection, mechanics, proportion, movement, and problem-solving as an idea evolves from an initial concept into a completed work.
Develop your own Language.
Take the techniques beyond Hitomi’s designs.
The goal is not simply to recreate Hitomi’s signature structures, but to understand the principles behind them. As you build your technical knowledge and confidence, you’ll learn how to adapt these methods, experiment with materials, solve new design challenges, and ultimately use structure-building as a tool for developing your own creative ideas and individual design language.

One of the most unique elements of the MasterClass experience is the opportunity to connect personally with Hitomi through live 1-on-1 mentoring sessions.
These individual sessions create space to move beyond the general curriculum and focus specifically on you and your work. Share projects you are developing, discuss challenges you have encountered, explore an idea you would like to take further, or simply ask questions about your own creative process and development.
Hitomi will provide personalized feedback, observations, and guidance based on what she sees in your work, helping you identify possibilities, work through challenges, and consider new ways of approaching your ideas.
The goal of mentorship is not to tell you what your work should become, but to help you better understand where you want to take it and how the techniques, principles, and experiences explored throughout the MasterClass can become part of your own creative practice.

Volume One: Structures officially begins November 22, 2026.
Hitomi’s MasterClass Series is designed to be an immersive and evolving learning experience that unfolds over six months. Lessons, demonstrations, discussions, projects, and live learning opportunities will be introduced throughout the program, allowing time to learn, experiment, create, and put new ideas into practice. Rather than simply watching a collection of lessons, you’ll be encouraged to actively participate — working through guided projects, joining live sessions and group discussions, sharing your work, asking questions, and receiving feedback along the way. Each stage of the MasterClass will build upon the last, taking you from learning Hitomi’s techniques to developing the confidence and skills to explore structure-building in your own way.
